Lake Charles Announces Final Pass for Residential Hurricane Debris Pickup

The City of Lake Charles has announced that FEMA’s residential debris pick-up program for Hurricanes Laura and Delta is coming to a close in the city. Property owners will need to have all residential debris to the curb by Monday, August 9, 2021. This is when the final pass for residential debris will begin. The final day debris removal contractors will be in the City is Friday, August 27.
In an effort to ensure that all eligible debris placed on the city rights-of-way in Lake Charles is picked up by the August 9 deadline, hurricane debris removal contractors and monitors will be inspecting city each city roadway before considering it complete.
Residents are asked to sort debris when placing it curbside in order to expedite the debris removal process. Residents should create separate piles for vegetative debris, construction debris, appliances/white goods, electronics, and hazardous household waste.
Debris removal contractors have picked up more than 4.2 million cubic yards of debris within Lake Charles since debris removal began during the fall of 2020.
