Lake Charles, LA – The City of Lake Charles will officially observe the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday, January 20, 2025. As a result, Lake Charles City Hall will be closed, and there will be no trash or garbage collection on that day. Residents should take note of changes to the usual trash and garbage pickup schedule during this time.

Trash and garbage that are typically collected on Mondays will be rescheduled for pickup on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. In addition, the collections that usually take place on Tuesdays will be moved to Wednesday, January 22, 2025. However, residents can expect that Thursday and Friday routes will continue as normal, adhering to their regular schedules.

In conjunction with the holiday, all other services provided by the Department of Public Works will also be unavailable on January 20. This includes the Recycling Operations at Nelson Ball Field/Alma Lane, the Wood Waste Facility, and the Roving Green Truck. These services will resume their standard hours of operation on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

Residents are reminded to place their trash containers and other items for removal curbside before 7 a.m. on their designated collection day. Alternatively, items may be set out the evening prior to collection. It is important for residents to comply with these guidelines, as containers should be removed no later than 7 p.m. on the day of service. Additionally, the responsibility for collecting any spillage from containers falls on the owner, occupant, or tenant.
