Lake Charles, Louisiana – The National Weather Service in Lake Charles, Louisiana, has issued a severe weather outlook for Sunday, January 5, 2025, warning residents across Southeast Texas and portions of Louisiana to prepare for potentially dangerous conditions.

Forecasters have designated a Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) for severe weather, primarily targeting Southeast Texas, Central, Southwest, and South-Central Louisiana. The alert emphasizes the possibility of tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail during Sunday afternoon.

The timing of these severe weather threats coincides with what is typically the warmest part of the day, during the afternoon. The temperature outlook shows Sunday reaching nearly 70 degrees Fahrenheit before the arrival of a powerful cold front.

Following Sunday’s severe weather threat, residents should prepare for a dramatic shift in temperatures. The mercury will plummet from a relatively mild 66°F on Monday to freezing conditions by midweek. Wednesday and Thursday will bring particularly cold temperatures, with overnight lows dipping into the mid-20s.

This weather pattern represents a significant temperature swing, with Lake Charles experiencing a 43-degree difference between Sunday’s high and Thursday’s predicted low. Residents are advised to protect sensitive vegetation and outdoor plumbing as the region faces its first substantial freeze of 2025.

The forecast indicates a steady cooling trend beginning Monday evening, with temperatures falling below freezing by Tuesday night. This extended period of cold weather could pose challenges for residents unaccustomed to prolonged freezing conditions in the Deep South.
