Lake Charles 2023 Mardi Gras Parade Information for Residents and Business Owners

Lake Charles, Louisiana – The City of Lake Charles announced on January 26, 2023, that on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, the city will hold a public meeting for property owners along Mardi Gras parade routes whose business operations will be impacted by the 2023 Mardi Gras Parades. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in City Hall’s City Council Chambers, 326 Pujo St.

The Lake Charles Mardi Gras Parade will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, and will depart from the Lake Charles Civic Center. It will travel down Broad Street to Shattuck Street, where it will turn onto Belden Street and travel to Ryan Street before returning to the Civic Center on Pine Street.

Mardi Gras of SWLA, Inc.’s Merchants’ Parade is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, February 17, and the Children’s Parade is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 19. Both parades will follow the Ryan Street Parade Route. On Tuesday, February 21, the Krewe of Krewes Parade will begin at 5 p.m. All of these parades will start at the north end of Bord du Lac Drive, cross Lakeshore Drive onto Pine Street, turn right onto Ryan Street, and continue south on Ryan to Sale Road, where they will conclude.

Other parades during the Mardi Gras weekend include:

On Saturday, February 18, at 1 p.m., the Cumulus Broadcasting Krewe of Barkus Parade will take place. This year, it will take a new route, beginning at the intersection of Broad and Ryan Streets and continuing down Broad Street to Hodges Street, where it will end at Cumulus Broadcasting, 425 Broad St.

The Krewe of Omega Parade will follow the Krewe of Barkus Parade on Saturday, February 18, at 2 p.m. It will leave the Lake Charles Civic Center, travel down Broad Street to Enterprise Boulevard, turn onto Mill Street, and return to the Lake Charles Civic Center.

Mardi Gras of SWLA’s Second Line Stroll Walking Parade (1 p.m.) on Mardi Gras Day, Tuesday, February 21, will travel from Pine and Ryan Streets south down Ryan Street to Clarence Street. Jeeps on Parade will travel down Ryan Street from Pine Street to Sallier Street at 2 p.m. The Motor Gras Parade will begin at 3 p.m. on Mardi Gras Day and will travel south from Pine and Ryan Streets to Sale Road.

City officials will advise the public on port-a-can placements, dumpster placements, law enforcement command center locations, Do’s and Don’ts, and downtown parking restrictions at the public meeting.

At the meeting, the City will distribute cardboard trash cans with plastic liners to property owners along the parade routes. The boxes are provided by the City of Lake Charles and Waste Management.
Property owners are asked to collect trash left on their property and place cardboard boxes along the parade route in the public right of way. The boxes will be collected by City Solid Waste crews. Solid Waste crews will pick up the boxes beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, the day after the parades, for Mardi Gras weekend.
