Lake Charles, Louisiana – A 13-year-old student at Oak Park Middle School in Lake Charles was arrested earlier today for allegedly making a threat to bring a gun to school and shoot up the school. According to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the school around 10:30 a.m. after the threat was reported.
During the investigation, detectives learned that the student had indeed made the threat and confirmed it when questioned further. The student was subsequently arrested and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center on charges of terrorizing – menacing.
The Calcasieu Parish School Board assisted the Sheriff’s Office in the investigation, which was led by Detective William Vaughan.
Terrorizing – menacing is a charge that involves making threats to harm or intimidate others, often with the intention of causing fear or alarm. In this case, the student’s threat was deemed credible enough to warrant an arrest and charges.
The investigation is ongoing, and the student is currently being held at the Juvenile Detention Center. The Sheriff’s Office has not released any further information about the student or the circumstances surrounding the threat.
