Hackberry, Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced that LA 27 at Kelso Bayou will be closed to all vehicular traffic on two separate days. The closure is necessary for crews to conduct a thorough inspection of the movable bridge.
The closure will take place from 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. Additionally, there will be a closure from 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2023, until 5 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023. Motorists are advised to plan their travel accordingly and use alternative routes.
Emergency responders have been made aware of the scheduled closure and will be stationed on both sides of Kelso Bridge to provide emergency services as needed. The safety and well-being of motorists are of utmost importance during this closure.
For motorists traveling south of Kelso Bayou, a detour route has been established. Drivers should take LA 27 south to Holly Beach, continue east along LA 27/82 across the Calcasieu River at Cameron Ferry, and then proceed to LA 27/82 in Creole. From there, they can head north on LA 27 through Holmwood to LA 14 and LA 397. Finally, they should head north to I-10, west to LA 1256 in Sulphur, and then south on LA 1256 and LA 27 to reach Kelso Bayou.
For motorists traveling north of Kelso Bayou, a separate detour route has been provided. Drivers should take LA 27 north to LA 1256, continue north to I-10, and then head east on I-10 to LA 397. From there, they should proceed south to LA 14 and then LA 27 to Creole. Finally, they can continue east along LA 27/82 across the Calcasieu River at Cameron Ferry to LA 27 in Holly Beach, and then proceed north to reach Kelso Bayou.
