Charges Upgraded to 2nd-Degree Murder for November 16 Shooting in Lake Charles

The victim, Jayden P. Ramirez, 18, Lake Charles, died from his injuries on the evening of November 16, 2021, according to Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives. CPSO Detectives upgraded the charges for the 16-year-old from aggravated 2nd-degree battery to 2nd-degree murder, on November 17, 2021.

Lake Charles, LA – Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a residence on Julia Street in Lake Charles around 7:30 p.m. on November 13, 2021, in connection to a shooting incident. When deputies arrived, they discovered the victim, who appeared to have been shot.
The gunshot was allegedly carried out by the victim’s 16-year-old acquaintance, according to the investigation. She was taken into custody and charged with aggravated 2nd-degree battery and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center.
The victim was flown to an out-of-town hospital and is in critical condition.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Detective Brian Batchelor is the lead investigator on this case.
