New Iberia, Louisiana – An officer-involved shooting in New Iberia, Louisiana, has claimed the life of 30-year-old Justin Rhine. The incident occurred on April 30, 2025, when officers from the New Iberia Police Department, assisted by the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, attempted to apprehend Rhine based on an Order of Protective Custody.
During the encounter, Rhine reportedly fled from the officers, produced a firearm, which led to New Iberia police officers discharging their service firearms, striking him. Rhine succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Louisiana State Police are currently investigating the incident, with assistance from their Crime Lab in processing the scene. No officers were injured during the event.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the confrontation began as law enforcement personnel sought to take Rhine into custody. As the investigation progresses, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
