Harvey, Louisiana – The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is mourning the passing of K9 Macho, a dedicated police dog who died in the line of duty on the morning of January 15, 2025. The incident occurred while deputies were assisting the U.S. Marshals Service with the apprehension of a wanted subject in Harvey, Louisiana.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., the Crisis Management Unit responded to a call for assistance at a residence located in the 2000 block of Estalote Avenue. After a search, deputies located the suspect inside the home around 10:50 a.m. During the apprehension process, K9 Macho suffered a medical emergency. He was immediately transported to a local veterinary hospital for treatment but was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival.
A necropsy, which is a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death in animals, will be conducted to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding Macho’s passing.
K9 Macho had served with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office for six years and was a valued member of the team. Throughout his career, he was deployed over 200 times, demonstrating his commitment and bravery in assisting law enforcement officers. His contributions to the department and the community were significant, and he will be remembered for his loyalty and service.
