Iowa, Louisiana – A nighttime traffic stop along Interstate 10 in Iowa, Louisiana, led to the seizure of more than $90,000 in illegal narcotics and the arrest of a Baton Rouge man who was traveling with two juveniles, according to the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force.
At approximately 8 p.m. on January 28, detectives with the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on a small SUV near mile marker 39 on I-10 in Iowa for a traffic violation. The C.A.T. Team is a multi-agency unit that targets drug trafficking and related criminal activity in Calcasieu Parish.
Detectives made contact with the driver, identified as 37-year-old Sirdonovan J. Jordan of Baton Rouge. Two juveniles, ages 12 and 16, were also inside the vehicle. While speaking with Jordan, investigators reported observing signs of in-transit criminal activity, a term commonly used when officers see indicators that a vehicle may be involved in the transport of illegal items such as drugs, weapons, or contraband.
Illegal narcotics were observed in plain view inside the SUV, authorities said, giving detectives probable cause to search the vehicle.
During the search, detectives located 12 pints of promethazine in the cargo area of the SUV. Promethazine is a prescription-strength medication that can be abused, especially when mixed with other substances.
Investigators also found more than 5 pounds of suspected synthetic marijuana and over 1 pound of suspected cocaine inside a black trash bag in the cargo area, according to the task force report. In the driver’s door, detectives located several suspected MDMA pills, often known as ecstasy, and a firearm with a live round chambered under the driver’s seat.
Further investigation revealed that Jordan has a violent criminal history and is a convicted felon, currently on probation until January 2026 for possession of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance (CDS II), authorities said. Under Louisiana law, convicted felons are prohibited from possessing firearms.
As detectives continued their investigation at the scene, they located suspected marijuana on one of the juveniles. According to the task force, it was learned that Jordan had given the juvenile the narcotics and instructed her to dispose of them when detectives initiated the traffic stop.
Jordan was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. He faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including:
- Possession of CDS II with intent to distribute
- Possession of CDS I with intent to distribute
- Possession of CDS I (MDMA)
- Possession of CDS I (marijuana)
- Possession of a legend drug (a prescription drug that is not a controlled substance but is regulated)
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- Illegal carry of a weapon in the presence of CDS
- Obstruction of justice
- Cruelty to juveniles
- Soliciting minors to distribute
Judge Tony Fazzio set Jordan’s bond at $1,785,500.
Authorities estimate the total street value of the seized narcotics at more than $90,000.
The two children in the vehicle were placed in state custody by the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services.
The Combined Anti-Drug Task Force described the case as part of its broader mission to disrupt trafficking of illegal substances along major transportation corridors in and around Calcasieu Parish. The task force includes law enforcement officials from local, state, and federal agencies who work together to identify and intercept narcotics moving through the region, particularly along I-10, a major east-west interstate route through Southwest Louisiana.
As of the latest information released, no additional arrests have been reported in connection with the Iowa traffic stop.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
