Iowa, Louisiana - Denison Road in the Iowa area will close for more than five weeks starting Monday, Oct. 27, as crews work to relocate and lower an existing pipeline.
The closure will begin at 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27 and continue through 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5. The extended shutdown is necessary to complete the pipeline relocation work safely.
Drivers who regularly use Denison Road will need to find alternate routes during the closure period. Officials have established a detour using River Road, Bill Corbello Road, Bowmen Road and Sidney Leger Road. Motorists should plan for additional travel time when using the detour route.
The project involves relocating and lowering a pipeline that crosses beneath Denison Road. Pipeline relocation work typically requires excavation, installation of new pipeline sections and restoration of the roadway surface once the underground work is complete.
Weather conditions could affect the closure timeline. Officials noted the Dec. 5 reopening date depends on favorable weather that allows crews to maintain the construction schedule. Severe weather or extended periods of rain could push the reopening date later.
Residents who live near Denison Road should expect delays when traveling in the area. Officials are asking drivers to use caution when navigating the detour routes and to watch for construction equipment and workers near the work zone.
