Westlake, Louisiana, and Lake Charles, Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced a temporary lane closure on Interstate 10 West that will affect traffic between Lake Charles and Westlake during overnight hours this week.
The right lane of I-10 West will be closed from Mile Marker 29.5 in Lake Charles to Mile Marker 27 in Westlake from 7 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2025, until 5 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2025. The closure includes the Calcasieu River Bridge.
The closure is necessary for crews to install signage and barrier rail as part of preparations for the permanent closure of I-10 westbound Exit 27 in Westlake in preparation for a new I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge. This exit closure accommodates the relocation of the Phillips 66 Pipe Rack project.
Transportation officials will place detour signs to guide westbound I-10 travelers around the affected area. Motorists planning to reach Westlake during the closure period should take Exit 26, which provides access to US 90, PPG Drive, and Trousdale as alternative routes to their destination.
Travelers should expect potential delays during the closure period and plan additional travel time. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists to stay alert for construction signs and reduced speed limits in work zones.
The Calcasieu River Bridge serves as a critical link for commuters and commercial traffic moving between Texas and Louisiana.
Commercial truck drivers and regular commuters who frequently use this stretch of I-10 should familiarize themselves with the Exit 26 detour route before Thursday evening. The detour adds approximately two miles to trips destined for central Westlake locations.
