Sabine Parish, Louisiana – A tragic incident occurred on August 5, 2024, when a 75-year-old man lost his life in a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 175. According to the Louisiana State Police Troop E, the crash happened around 8:00 p.m. near the intersection with Louisiana Highway 174.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, Lonnie M. Lyddy of Many, Louisiana was driving a 2023 GMC 2500 southbound on Louisiana Highway 175 when his vehicle veered off the roadway, traveled down the ditch embankment, and struck a tree. Lyddy, who was wearing his seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Although the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, authorities suspect that impairment may have played a role. Toxicology samples were collected and are being analyzed to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved.

Louisiana State Police said, “If you feel differently, you drive differently” as alcohol, prescription drugs, and other substances can significantly impair one’s ability to operate a vehicle safely. These substances can affect visual perception, alter the sense of time and space, and decrease reaction times, making it extremely dangerous to get behind the wheel.

Louisiana State Police encourages all drivers to plan ahead, designate a sober driver, and prioritize their safety and the safety of others on the road. Failure to do so can have devastating consequences, as seen in this tragic incident.
