Union Parish, Louisiana - On the early morning of Sunday, October 22, 2023, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F initiated an investigation into a tragic single-vehicle crash that occurred on North Spillway Road near Wildwood Drive in Union Parish.

The incident claimed the life of a young individual named John Jones, aged 21, from Farmerville, Louisiana.

Initial findings indicate that the crash involved a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Jones, which was heading northbound on North Spillway Road. The vehicle veered off the road for reasons that are currently being investigated and collided with a tree before overturning. LSP reported that Jones was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, became trapped inside the vehicle, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities suspect that impairment may have been a contributing factor in this incident. As part of their investigation process, routine samples for toxicology analysis were obtained and will be submitted accordingly. The investigation into this particular crash is still ongoing.

Troopers wanted to remind all motorists about the importance of making responsible choices while operating a motor vehicle – never drive under the influence or while fatigued or distracted; adhere to all traffic regulations; and ensure that every passenger is properly secured within their seats. While it's impossible to prevent all crashes from being fatal, implementing these simple precautions can often be what separates life from death.

So far in 2023, Troop F has investigated a total of 33 fatal crashes resulting in 41 fatalities.
