Impairment Suspected in Late Night Crash on LA 159 that Claimed the Life of an Unrestrained Louisiana Man

Louisiana – Louisiana State Police reported on November 24, 2022, that on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, shortly after 11:00 p.m., Troopers assigned to LSP Troop G began investigating a one-vehicle fatality crash on LA Hwy 159, just south of LA Hwy 2. Bret Dooly, 24, of Minden, Louisiana, was not wearing a seatbelt and was killed in the crash.

The initial inquiry found that Dooly was driving a 2005 Ford F-150 south on LA Hwy 159. He exited the route and proceeded through the ditch before overturning for reasons that are still being investigated.

Dooly, who was not wearing a seat belt, was killed in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Webster Parish Coroner.
Authorities indicated that impairment is suspected to have played a role in this crash. Routine toxicological samples were collected and analyzed. The crash is still being investigated.

Troopers indicated that they are repeatedly witnessing avoidable motor vehicle crashes. The leading causes of collisions in Louisiana are impairment and a lack of seat belt use. When drinking alcohol, Louisiana State Police advise drivers to have a strategy in place that includes a designated driver. Alcohol can impair vision, change one’s sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills, and slow reaction times. After just one drink, alcohol can begin to impair a person’s ability to drive safely. Please choose not to drive or ride with an impaired driver, and always wear a seat belt.

Troop G investigated 32 fatal crashes in 2022, resulting in 35 deaths.
