Impairment Suspected in Fiery Crash in Louisiana that Killed a Georgia Man on LA 513
Louisiana - Louisiana State Police indicated that they suspect impairment played a role in a fiery crash on LA Hwy. 513 that claimed the life of a Georgia man. On November 18, 2022, Louisiana State Police announced that Troopers assigned to LSP Troop G began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on LA Hwy 513 near Kyle Porter Road in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, shortly before 5:00 a.m. Damien Milligan, 42, of McDonough, Georgia, was killed in the crash.
According to the preliminary investigation, Milligan was driving a 2019 Ram pickup south on LA Hwy 513 when he exited the lane and collided with the trailer of a parked 2010 Mack truck. The Ram was completely engulfed in flames after the impact.
Milligan, whose usage of restraints is unknown, sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the DeSoto Parish Coroner.
LSP indicated that impairment is suspected to be a factor in this crash. Routine toxicological samples were collected and analyzed. The crash is still being investigated.
Troopers are repeatedly witnessing avoidable motor vehicle crashes. Impaired driving is one of the leading causes of vehicle accidents in Louisiana. When drinking alcohol, Louisiana State Police advise drivers to have a strategy in place that includes a designated driver. Alcohol can impair vision, change one's sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills, and slow reaction times. After just one drink, alcohol can begin to impair a person's ability to drive safely. Please refrain from driving or riding with an inebriated driver.
Troop G has investigated 31 fatal crashes so far in 2022, resulting in 34 deaths.
