Impairment Suspected in Fatal Early Morning Crash in Louisiana on LA 418 in Pointe Coupee Parish

Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana – Impairment is suspected in a fatal early morning crash in Louisiana on LA 418 in Pointe Coupee Parish.

A tragic crash occurred in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana on June 1, 2023, shortly after 1 am that left one person dead and raised suspicions of impairment. The incident involved a 2012 Ford F-350 driven by John Goode, a 64-year-old man from Batchelor, Louisiana who was reportedly unrestrained at the time of the crash. According to Louisiana State Police Troop A, Goode’s vehicle was traveling north on LA 418 when the vehicle exited the roadway near the intersection of LA 418 and LA 417 and struck an embankment before coming to rest.

The event involved a single vehicle and resulted in fatal injuries to the driver, John Goode.

Louisiana State Police Troop A is currently investigating the crash, and a toxicology sample is being analyzed to determine the level of impairment.

LSP indicated that impaired driving can have serious impacts on communities. Alcohol, prescription medication, and other drugs negatively affect driving skills, impairing visual ability, altering the sense of time and space, impairing fine motor skills, and decreasing reaction times.

It is important to designate a sober driver or plan ahead to avoid driving under the influence.

The Louisiana State Police issued a reminder to all motorists to drive sober, and to wear their seatbelts, as not wearing a seatbelt can be the difference between life and death.

Wearing a seatbelt while driving is crucial for ensuring safety on the road. Seatbelts are designed to keep the driver and passengers in the vehicle during a collision, preventing them from being ejected and potentially suffering fatal injuries.
