Haughton, Louisiana – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop G initiated an investigation into a fatal collision that occurred on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, a little after 10:30 p.m. The crash, which took place on I-20 eastbound near the Haughton Fillmore Exit, near Haughton, Louisiana, tragically resulted in the death of Alejandra Berry, a 38-year-old resident of Shreveport, Louisiana.

According to the initial investigation, a 2018 Jeep Cherokee driven by Berry was going in the wrong direction on the westbound lanes of I-20. Simultaneously, a 2024 Mack 18-wheeler was traveling eastbound on I-20. For reasons that are still being investigated, the Cherokee crashed head-on into the 18-wheeler and veered off the left side of the road.

Due to the crash, Berry, who was wearing a seatbelt, tragically lost her life. The Bossier Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed her death at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck, who was also wearing a seatbelt, was unharmed.

Louisiana State Police indicated that it is suspected that Berry may have been impaired. Authorities collected routine samples for toxicology testing, which will be analyzed. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Troopers want to emphasize the importance of making wise choices while driving. It is crucial to never drive under the influence, when tired, or while distracted. Adhering to all traffic regulations and ensuring that all passengers are securely restrained is essential. Although not all crashes can be avoided, taking these simple precautions can greatly increase one’s chances of survival.

Troop G has investigated two fatal crashes in 2024, leading to the unfortunate loss of two lives.
