An impaired Louisiana man has been arrested by Louisiana State Police after traveling the wrong way on the interstate.

From Louisiana State Police – During the morning of March 21, 2021, Louisiana State Police Troop G received a call reporting a wrong-way driver on Interstate 20 west of Goodwill Road. Troopers responded to the area and located a Volkswagen Passat passenger car traveling westbound in the eastbound travel lanes in Bossier Parish. The wrong-way driver, later identified as 23-year-old Dmetrius Richard of Shreveport, failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued.

Troopers and Bossier Parish Deputies closed interstate entrance ramps to ensure the safety of other motorists. As Richard approached the I-220 interchange, Troopers successfully deployed tire deflation devices. Richard continued a short distance before attempting a U-Turn where he was finally taken into custody without incident.
Richard submitted to a breath test which showed an impairment level of more than double the legal limit. He was booked into Bossier Max for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, driving wrong-way on a roadway, and flight from an officer.

Troopers are dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of the people in our state, as shown by their quick thinking and heroic actions, and will continue to do so. Louisiana State Police wish to remind motorists if they observe reckless or criminal activity to dial *LSP (*577) to contact the nearest LSP Troop.
