Westlake, Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced upcoming overnight closures on Interstate 10 Westbound in the Westlake area. The closures, scheduled from Wednesday night to Thursday morning, will affect both traffic lanes and exit ramps as road maintenance work takes place.
According to transportation officials, the closures will begin at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, and continue until 5 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2025. During this nine-hour window, crews will perform mill and overlay procedures—a process that involves removing the deteriorated surface layer of the roadway and replacing it with fresh asphalt to extend the life of the road.
The closure will impact the right lane of I-10 Westbound, beginning on the eastern side of the Calcasieu River Bridge. Additionally, Exit 27, which connects I-10 Westbound to LA 378 (Sampson Street), will be completely closed during this time.
Motorists planning to use Exit 27 will need to follow a designated detour route. Drivers should continue past the closed exit along I-10 Westbound to the US 90 exit. From there, they should merge onto US 90 and take the next exit at PPG Drive. At PPG Drive, motorists can take the I-10 Eastbound entrance ramp and then continue along I-10 Eastbound to reach Exit 27 for LA 378.
The DOTD advises travelers to plan for additional travel time if their route includes this section of I-10 during the scheduled work period. Though the work is being conducted overnight to minimize traffic disruption, some delays may still occur.
This maintenance project is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to maintain and improve road conditions throughout Louisiana’s highway system. Mill and overlay work helps address surface deterioration before more extensive and costly repairs become necessary.
