Lake Charles, Louisiana – On Saturday, September 7, 2024, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced a traffic diversion plan to facilitate the implosion of the Capital One Tower in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The diversion is necessary to ensure public safety during the demolition process.
Starting at 6:30 a.m., LA 1262 (Veterans Memorial Boulevard) will be closed at Pryce Street to prepare for the implosion, scheduled for 8 a.m. Additionally, Interstate 10 (I-10) Eastbound and Westbound will be diverted to Interstate 210 just before the implosion. Motorists will not be allowed to enter I-10 during this time. The diversion is expected to be lifted soon after the implosion, once an all-clear is given.
DOTD personnel will be working on signals at the intersection of LA 1262 and Broad Street, but crews will be out of the area by 6:30 a.m. to ensure a smooth traffic flow.
Lloyd D. Nabors Demolition is the general contractor for the building demolition, with Controlled Demolition Inc. (CDI) handling the implosion.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead, allowing extra time for their commute, and to follow the diversion signs and instructions from law enforcement. The closure of LA 1262 will be reopened once the clean-up is completed after the implosion.
