Lake Charles, LA - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has scheduled an overnight lane closure on Interstate 10 westbound in Lake Charles to conduct necessary repairs to overhead street lighting.
The left lane of I-10 westbound near Milepost 31, between the Bilbo Street overpass and the Calcasieu River Bridge, will be closed from 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2025, until 5 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2025.
In addition to the lane closure, motorists should be aware that the Kirkman Street on-ramp to I-10 will be completely closed during this maintenance period.
Transportation officials have established a detour route for drivers needing to access I-10 westbound during the closure. The recommended alternate route directs motorists to use Church Street and Lakeshore Drive to reach the interstate.
These temporary closures are part of DOTD's ongoing maintenance efforts to ensure proper illumination along this heavily traveled corridor. Overhead street lighting plays a crucial role in nighttime visibility and safety for drivers navigating the interstate system.
Drivers planning to travel through this area during the scheduled maintenance period should allow extra time for their commute, follow posted detour signs, and exercise caution around work crews.
