I-10 Eastbound Lane Closure Announced in Lake Charles for Drainage Work Near Lakeshore Drive

Lake Charles, Louisiana — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced a temporary closure of the left lane on Interstate 10 Eastbound in Lake Charles, affecting the stretch between Exit 29 at Lakeshore Drive and the Kirkman Street overpass. The closure is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, and will remain in effect until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

According to DOTD officials, this lane closure is necessary to allow inspection and cleaning of the drainage structures along this busy corridor. Drainage structures, which include pipes and culverts, are essential for directing rainwater away from the roadway, helping to prevent flooding and maintain safe driving conditions. Over time, these structures can become clogged with debris, reducing their effectiveness and increasing the risk of water pooling on the highway during storms.

The maintenance work is scheduled overnight to minimize the impact on commuters and commercial traffic. However, drivers traveling through the area during these hours should expect delays and exercise caution when approaching the work zone. DOTD advises all motorists to reduce speed, follow posted signage, and remain alert for crews and equipment.

No detours are planned, but traffic congestion is possible, particularly during the early morning and late evening hours. Commercial truck drivers and local commuters are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly and allow for extra travel time.

While lane closures can be an inconvenience, officials emphasize that the scheduled work is crucial for keeping the highway safe and reliable for all drivers. As always, DOTD thanks the public for their patience and cooperation during this necessary maintenance.
