Sulphur, Louisiana – Houston River Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire Friday morning at approximately 5:30 a.m. in the 200 block of East Jim Pickens Road, just north of Sulphur, in Calcasieu Parish.
The department dispatched multiple units to the scene, including Engine 1, Engine 2, Service Unit 2, Ladder 1, Command Unit 92, Rehab 1, and Command Unit 91. Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One provided automatic aid, while Sulphur Fire Department and Carlyss Fire Department sent additional engine companies and personnel to assist with the response.
When Command Unit 91 arrived at the scene, the mobile home was already 30% to 40% involved in flames. Firefighters worked quickly to control the blaze, but the structure became a total loss despite their efforts.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and Acadian Ambulance also responded to the incident. Calcasieu Parish E911 coordinated all dispatch communications and made necessary contact with supporting agencies throughout the emergency response.
No injuries occurred to firefighters or the home’s occupants during the incident. However, one dog died in the fire, while two other pets successfully escaped the burning structure.
The American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance to the displaced residents. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to help Houston River Fire Department with the ongoing investigation into the fire’s cause.
Fire officials have not ruled out electrical activity as a potential cause of the blaze. The investigation remains active as authorities work to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fire.
The multi-agency response demonstrates the coordinated effort between local fire departments in Calcasieu Parish to provide mutual aid during emergency situations. Automatic aid agreements allow fire departments to share resources and personnel when additional support is needed to protect lives and property.
