House Republican Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana Releases Statement on Passing of Queen Elizabeth II
Washington D.C. / Louisiana – On September 8, 2022, U.S. House Republican Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana released the following statement on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II:
“I am saddened to learn of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, and would like to extend my condolences to the Royal Family.
“For more than 70 years, Queen Elizabeth II dutifully served her country and provided steady leadership during moments of both crisis and triumph. During her reign, the Queen shepherded her kingdom through economic turbulence, war, and personal loss.
“When she turned 18, then-Princess Elizabeth heroically joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service, the women’s branch of the British Army during World War II, becoming the first female member of the Royal Family to serve in active duty. At 25 years old, she assumed the throne following the death of her father, King George VI. It was her steady stewardship, including meetings with 14 different U.S. presidents, that brought the United States and the United Kingdom closer together and strengthened our ‘special relationship’ that thrives to this day.
“As we mourn Her Majesty, we remember and cherish the longest-living and longest-reigning British monarch in world history who always put the people of the United Kingdom first. Our prayers remain with her family and the British people.”
