Heavy Police Presence on Nelson Road in Lake Charles, Reports of Subject Barricaded in Home

September 30, 2019, update – Joshua Hardin was taken into custody in Moss Bluff on the evening of September 29.

September 29, 2019, update – Lake Charles Police Department indicated that this was a domestic dispute, and the subject was not in the home when they eventually made entry late September 28.

Authorities are now searching for the subject, 34-year-old Joshua Hardin. It was indicated that Hardin entered the home on Nelson Road in Lake Charles and hid waiting for the homeowner, who was Hardin’s ex-wife. Hardin then allegedly used a bat to attack the homeowner. Two children ran from the home at the time of the attack, and the homeowner was later able to exit the home when police arrived. Joshua Hardin then closed the door and would not respond to requests to come out. SWAT eventually made entry into the home late September 28, but the subject was no longer inside.

The subject, Joshua Hardin is now wanted on the charges of false imprisonment, unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling, aggravated battery, and violation of a protective order.

There have been several reports of a heavy police presence in the 3600 and 3700 blocks of Nelson Road in Lake Charles. According to some witnesses, there were at least ten police units including a K9 and several officers with their guns drawn at the location. Part of Nelson Road has also been blocked off.

Preliminary reports indicated that this was initially a disturbance call and a subject has barricaded themselves in a home.

At approximately 11:00 p.m., September 28, 2019, Lake Charles Fire Department was dispatched on a service call to use their ventilation fans at the home. It is unclear at this time if they were called out to ventilate gas, smoke, or something else.
