Heat Advisory Issued for Southwest Louisiana, Nearby Areas, July 24

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued a heat advisory for Portions of central, south-central, and southwest
Louisiana, and southeast Texas.

The heat advisory is in effect on July 24, 2021, from noon until 6 pm. Heat index values up to 112 degrees Fahrenheit are expected. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses to occur.

Parishes in Louisiana and counties in Texas under the advisory include:

Rapides-Avoyelles-Evangeline-St. Landry- Calcasieu -Jefferson Davis-
Acadia-Lafayette-Upper St. Martin-Vermilion-Iberia-St. Mary-
Lower St. Martin-West Cameron-East Cameron-Hardin-Jefferson-
Orange

Including the cities of Alexandria, Pineville, Effie, Marksville,
Bunkie, Cottonport, Simmesport, Mansura, Ville Platte, Beaver,
St. Landry, Mamou, Reddell, Lawtell, Opelousas, Eunice,
Lake Charles, Sulphur, Hathaway, Jennings, Topsy, Roanoke, Welsh,
Lake Arthur, Crowley, Rayne, Branch, Church Point, Richard,
Lafayette, Breaux Bridge, Cade, St. Martinville, Abbeville,
Intracoastal City, Meaux, Forked Island, Kaplan, New Iberia,

Precautionary and preparedness actions:

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heatstroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
