Hazardous Weather and Tropical Weather Outlooks Issued by NWS for Storms that May Impact Louisiana July 1-6

On the evening on Thursday, June 30, 3033, and during the morning of July 1, 2022, the National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook and a Tropical Weather Outlook for weather systems that may impact Louisiana.

The National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for parts of Louisiana, including Southwest Louisiana, on the evening of Thursday, June 30, 2022.

The Hazardous Weather Outlook for Friday, July 1, 2022, through Wednesday, July 6, 2022, indicated that abundant moisture over the region will aid in the development of numerous to widespread showers and thunderstorms. Locally heavy rainfall is possible, along with cloud-to-ground lightning and strong winds. Highs are expected to be in the mid to upper 80s.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible every day, especially Friday, with the best coverage in the afternoon. Some of the storms will produce locally heavy rainfall as well as cloud-to-ground lightning.

The likelihood of widespread hazardous weather was low at the time this weather outlook was published.

A Tropical Weather Outlook was also issued by the National Weather Service for the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico on the morning of July 1, 2022.

For the Western Gulf of Mexico, satellite imagery and surface observations show that the area of low pressure in the far western Gulf of Mexico has degenerated into a surface trough and is now moving inland along the southern Texas coast. As it moves further inland, development of this system is no longer anticipated. Regardless, heavy rain and flooding are possible over parts of southeast Texas.

Formation chance through July 3 is low, at 0 percent.
Formation chance through July 5 is low, near 0 percent.

For the Western Tropical Atlantic, several hundred miles east of the Windward Islands, a tropical wave is causing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. This system’s development should be slow as the wave moves west-northwestward over the next day or two. The wave is expected to pass over the Windward Islands today and then over the eastern Caribbean Sea by the weekend, where it is unlikely to develop further due to unfavorable environmental conditions.

Formation chance through July 3 is low, at 10 percent.
Formation chance through July 5 is low, near 10 percent.

For the Southwestern Caribbean Sea Potential Tropical Cyclone Two is the subject of advisories from the National Hurricane Center.

Formation chance through July 3 is high, at 90 percent.
Formation chance through July 5 is high, at 90 percent.
