Hayes Man Arrested in Connection with October 19 Shooting in Bell City

Lake Charles, LA – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that on October 19, 2021, at approximately 6:30 p.m. CPSO deputies were dispatched to the 6100 block of Highway 101 in Bell City, LA in reference to a shooting.

Calcasieu Parish deputies reportedly located the victim with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. While investigating it was discovered that the suspect, Clint A. Carpenter, 39, of Hayes, LA, allegedly shot the victim after a verbal argument, then fled the scene.

CPSO deputies conducted an extensive search of the area and with the assistance of CPSO Air 1 and were able to locate Carpenter a short time later in a wooded area south of Hayes, near Highway 14.
Carpenter was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with aggravated 2nd-degree battery; illegal use of a dangerous weapon; and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Judge Mike Canaday set his bond at $175,000.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
