Free Breakfast and Lunch For All Students at Some Calcasieu Parish Schools
The Calcasieu Parish School Board announced on Monday, July 23, 2018, that all students at some schools in the parish will not have to pay to eat breakfast and lunch during the 2018-2019 school year. The announcement was posted on their School Nutritional Program Facebook page. The text in their social media post says “All students attending the schools listed below are able to eat breakfast and lunch for free this year. No applications needed! “, along with the hashtags “#fuelinghungryminds and
#happyandhealthystudents“.

The announcement received mixed responses.
Some saw the free lunches as a positive thing, while others seemed confused or unhappy.
Someone from the CPSB responded in the comments with the following “Schools listed have an Identified Student population of at least 40%. That percentage comes from students certified for free meals without the use of household applications. Students not attending a CEP school can still qualify for free/reduced meals using our meal applications (paper or online). Link to follow soon!”
