Lake Charles, Louisiana – In an effort to promote child safety on the roads, the Lake Charles Fire Department (LCFD) is offering a complimentary child safety seat check this Saturday, July 27, 2024. This initiative aims to ensure that car seats are properly installed, providing parents with peace of mind regarding their children’s safety during travel.

The event will take place at LCFD Station Six, located at 4210 Kirkman Street, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Parents and guardians are encouraged to stop by, as certified technicians will be available to inspect car seats and provide guidance on correct installation techniques. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a significant number of child safety seats are not installed correctly, which can drastically increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Child safety seats are designed to protect children in various ways, depending on their age, weight, and height. The proper use of these seats is not just a recommendation; it is a critical component of vehicle safety that can save lives.

No appointments are necessary for this event, and families are welcome to drop in during the designated hours.
