Former Sheriff’s Office Employee in Louisiana Charged in Connection with Theft of Over $150k in Traffic Fines
Baton Rouge, Louisiana – A former employee of the Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana has been charged in connection with the theft of over $150,000 in traffic fines.
On May 11, 2023, United States Attorney Ronald C. Gathe, Jr., announced that a Bill of Information was filed charging Mandy Nicole Miller, age 44, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with Federal Program Theft.
According to the Bill of Information, while employed at the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office from July 2018 to September 2022, Miller allegedly stole funds paid for traffic fines and concealed the thefts by entering bogus journal entries in the Sheriff’s Office accounting system. Miller is accused of embezzling, stealing, and intentionally converting more than $150,000 in public funds to her own use without authorization.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s Investigative Audit Services are investigating this case, with cooperation from the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Lyman E. Thornton III is prosecuting the case.
A Bill of Information is a charge or accusation of a crime. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
