Former City Marshal’s Office Employee in Louisiana Arrested for Malfeasance in Office In Connection with the Alleged Theft of Approximately $20k

Louisiana – The Louisiana State Police reported on October 13, 2022, that in March 2022, the Leesville City Marshal’s Office (LCMO) contacted the LSP Bureau of Investigations/Alexandria Field Office (LSP AFO) about a criminal complaint against a former employee. According to LCMO, a former employee named Gary Scott, 47, allegedly misappropriated monies while working for the Marshal’s Office.

LSP AFO secured an arrest warrant for Scott as a consequence of the investigation and information obtained. He was charged with malfeasance in office and theft of approximately $20,000 earlier. Scott was booked as a fugitive by LSP Detectives at the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office and transferred to the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he was booked without incident.

The Louisiana State Police will be in charge of the investigation. The investigation is still open and ongoing. There is currently no additional information available.

The public can also use the Louisiana State Police online reporting system, which includes a quick and secure reporting form that is reported to the relevant investigators. Citizens can obtain the form by going to www.lsp.org and clicking on the Suspicious Activity link.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
