Former Baton Rouge Police Officer Arrested After Allegedly Using a Taser on a Handcuffed Individual

Baton Rouge, Louisiana – Former Baton Rouge Police Department Officer Troy Lawrence, Jr., age 26, was apprehended by Baton Rouge Police in connection with an alleged incident that occurred on August 8, 2023, on Airline Hwy around 8:53 p.m.

After reviewing the departmental body camera footage, Baton Rouge Police Detectives observed Lawrence allegedly using a taser on a handcuffed individual in the rear seat of the patrol car without giving the subject an opportunity to comply with verbal commands.

On September 20, 2023, Lawrence was issued a misdemeanor summons for Simple Battery and was subsequently released.

BRPD indicated that this investigation is still ongoing.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
