Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana - The Food for Seniors Program will distribute monthly food boxes on Friday, Oct. 17, throughout Calcasieu Parish.
The program operates as a partnership between the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury's Human Services Department and Second Harvest Food Bank. Eligible seniors aged 60 and older who meet federal income requirements receive boxes containing nutritious, nonperishable food items each month.
Distribution sites are positioned at multiple locations across Calcasieu Parish to serve participants.
Following the October distribution, the program has scheduled two additional dates for 2025. The November distribution will take place on Friday, Nov. 21, and the December distribution is set for Friday, Dec. 19.
Seniors interested in learning more about the program can visit the official website at calcasieu.gov/foodforseniors. The website provides detailed information about program benefits and eligibility criteria.
Registration information is available by calling 337-502-0081 or 504-729-2842. Program representatives can answer questions about enrollment and federal income requirements during normal business hours.
The Food for Seniors Program addresses food insecurity among older adults in the parish by providing consistent access to shelf-stable grocery items. Second Harvest Food Bank, which partners with communities across Louisiana, supplies the food items distributed through this collaboration.
Participants must re-verify their eligibility periodically to continue receiving monthly food boxes. The program serves as a supplemental food source for seniors living on fixed incomes who qualify under federal poverty guidelines.
