Sulphur, Louisiana – An early morning house fire in the 1500 block of Eva Street in Sulphur drew a large multi-agency response after dispatchers sent crews to the scene at approximately 4:15 a.m., according to information released by the Houston River Fire Department.
Houston River Fire Department responded with Command 92, Engine 2, Engine 1, Tanker 1, and Rehab 1. Automatic aid was provided by Ward Six Fire Protection District One, while the Sulphur Fire Department responded under a mutual-aid agreement. These types of agreements allow nearby departments to assist one another, ensuring that enough firefighters, fire engines, and water supply are available during larger or more complex incidents.
First-arriving units reported finding a wood-frame structure fully involved in fire. Because of the intensity and extent of the fire, firefighters quickly shifted to defensive operations. In a defensive attack, crews work primarily from the outside of the structure, focusing on containing the flames, protecting nearby property, and preventing the fire from spreading, rather than trying to fight it from the inside.
The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted and is leading the investigation into the cause of the fire. No information on the cause or origin of this fire has been released at this time.
All units were cleared from the scene at 7:30 a.m., about three hours after the initial dispatch.
