Fire and Possible Explosion Reported Near Calcasieu Refining in Lake Charles, Shelter in Place and Evacuation Orders Issued For Nearby Areas
An incident involving fire and potential explosion was reported near Calcasieu Refining in Lake Charles, prompting the issuance of shelter-in-place and evacuation orders for nearby areas.
On June 4, 2023, at approximately 5:40 am the Lake Charles Police Department announced that the Mandatory Evacuation & Shelter In Place for the Graywood subdivision & the Big Lake Rd area have been lifted.
On June 3, 2023, at approximately 2 pm, residents began reporting a fire and possible explosion at or near Calcasieu Refining in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
On June 3, 2023, at approximately 3:10 pm, the Office of Emergency Preparedness issued a mandatory evacuation order for all of the Greywood Subdivision in Lake Charles due to due to a crude oil tank fire.
At approximately 2:50 pm on June 3, 2023, a shelter-in-place was issued for a 5-mile radius of Tank Farm Road in Lake Charles, near Calcasieu Refining. Authorities have indicated that Big Lake Road be avoided, per OEP LCPD, and traffic is being diverted at Country Club.
