Fiery Crash on I-59 in Louisiana Claims the Life of a Mississippi Man, Two Other Seriously Injured
Louisiana – Louisiana State Police stated on September 29, 2022, that on September 28th, soon after 9:30 p.m., Troopers from LSP Troop L began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 59 near the West Pearl River Bridge in St. Tammany Parish. Errol Childs of Picayune, Mississippi, was killed in the crash.
The incident happened while a Toyota Tundra was traveling north on Interstate 59. The Toyota veered off the road to the right for unknown reasons. After leaving the road, the Toyota collided with a utility pole and burst into flames.
Due to the considerable damage to the vehicle, it is unknown whether any of the three occupants were properly restrained at this time. Childs was a passenger in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Both the driver and the other passenger were taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The driver’s impairment is unknown at this time, although regular toxicology findings are awaited. This crash is still being investigated.
Troopers want to urge drivers to always make wise decisions when driving. Always drive sober, alert, and not distracted, obey all traffic laws, and make sure every occupant is securely restrained. While not all car accidents are avoidable, simple precautions like these can frequently mean the difference between life and death.
