Federal Jury in Louisiana Convicts Man of Sexual Abuse of 6 and 9-Year-Old and now Faces up to Life in Prison

Alexandria, Louisiana – On September 9, 2022, United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown announced that a federal jury in Alexandria, Louisiana returned a guilty verdict convicting Bobby Joe Mincey, 30, of aggravated sexual abuse of a minor. United States District Judge Dee D. Drell presided over the three-day trial.

Mincey was living with his wife at the time, who was a soldier in the United States Army stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, in December 2019. Mincey, his wife, and her two minor daughters were residing at Fort Polk’s Base Housing at the time. On December 6, 2019, Mincey’s two stepdaughters, ages 6 and 9, disclosed to their mother that Mincey had been sexually abusing them. The mother promptly contacted Fort Polk Military Police and reported her daughters’ allegations.

As a result, agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) launched an investigation into the allegations and interviewed both of the female minor victims about the events. Mincey was charged with aggravated sexual abuse by a federal grand jury in May 2021.

The trial started on September 7, 2022. The minor victims testified at trial that Mincey sexually abused them on a daily basis beginning when they were 5 and 6 years old. They claimed Mincey would force them to perform oral sex on him.

“The aggravated sexual abuse of a minor is an incomprehensible act, and these are cases that we will not shy away from prosecuting,” stated Attorney Brandon B. Brown. “The bravery shown by these minor victims who were willing to stand up to their abuser in court and tell the truth as to what happened to them is nothing short of heroic. These types of crimes will not be tolerated in the Western District of Louisiana. The tireless work by the FBI and U.S. Army, Criminal Investigation Division, for their work in this case is to be commended and we will continue to work to fight for victims such as this.”

Mincey faces a minimum prison sentence of 30 years and a maximum of life in prison, as well as a fine of up to $250,000. The date for sentencing has been scheduled for December 9, 2022.

The FBI and the United States Army’s Criminal Investigation Division investigated the case, which is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys J. Luke Walker and LaDonte A. Murphy.
