Sulphur, Louisiana – A 37-year-old Sulphur man died Saturday night after the side-by-side he was driving rolled over on West Dave Dugas Road, according to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Randall Ravia was operating the side-by-side vehicle on West Dave Dugas Road near Choupique Road just before 11 p.m. on Oct. 26 when he attempted to make a turn, investigators said. The vehicle rolled over for reasons that remain under investigation, ejecting both Ravia and his passenger from the side-by-side.
A side-by-side is an off-road utility vehicle, also known as a UTV, that typically seats two or more people next to each other.
Emergency responders transported Ravia to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to the sheriff’s office. The passenger was initially taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a medical facility out of town. That individual is listed in critical but stable condition.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has not released additional information about what caused the rollover or whether factors such as speed or road conditions contributed to the crash.
West Dave Dugas Road is located in the Carlyss area of Calcasieu Parish. The crash occurred in a section of the road near its intersection with Choupique Road.
