Covington, Louisiana - Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L launched an investigation into a fatal two-vehicle crash on Interstate 12 near LA Hwy 1077 in St. Tammany Parish last night, just before 10:00 p.m. The collision resulted in the death of Treddis Russell, a 36-year-old resident of Covington, Louisiana.

Initial findings indicated that the crash occurred when a 2024 Toyota Camry, driven by Russell, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 12. Simultaneously, a 2020 Kenworth 18-wheeler was also heading eastbound on the same route directly ahead of the Toyota. The Kenworth was moving at a reduced speed due to traffic congestion. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota collided with the rear of the Kenworth's trailer. Despite being properly restrained, Russell suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Kenworth was properly restrained and did not sustain any injuries. As part of their ongoing inquiry, troopers collected routine toxicology samples from both drivers for analysis.

Troopers emphasized the importance of making responsible decisions while operating a motor vehicle, including refraining from driving while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, adhering to all traffic regulations, and ensuring that all occupants are correctly secured. While not all crashes can be survived, these simple precautions can often make a significant difference in preventing tragic outcomes.
