Rapides Parish, Louisiana - A tragic incident occurred on October 28, 2024, at approximately 4:22 p.m., when Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 488 at Louisiana Highway 1199. The crash resulted in the loss of life of 32-year-old Jacob Strange of Forest Hill, Louisiana.
According to the initial investigation, Strange was driving a 2007 Honda motorcycle eastbound on Louisiana Highway 488. For reasons still under investigation, Strange was traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to pass a vehicle in a no-passing zone. As he re-entered the eastbound travel lane, he collided with a westbound 2011 Toyota Camry that was attempting to turn left onto Louisiana Highway 1199.
The motorcyclist's high-speed maneuver placed him directly in the path of the Toyota, resulting in a collision. As a result of the crash, Strange sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Toyota, who was restrained, sustained no injuries.
A toxicology sample was obtained from Strange and submitted for analysis, as is standard procedure in fatal crashes. The results of the analysis will provide further insight into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Louisiana State Police is urging all drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic laws to prevent such incidents in the future. Reckless driving, including speeding and passing in no-passing zones, is a significant contributor to the number of crashes on Louisiana's highways. By driving defensively and following the rules of the road, drivers can reduce their risk of being involved in a crash.
