St. Martin Parish, Louisiana – Not long after 2:00 p.m. on March 26, 2024, Louisiana State Police Troop I received a report of a vehicle crash involving only one vehicle on Louisiana Highway 3039, located south of Louisiana Highway 349. Unfortunately, the crash resulted in the death of Kyle David Theriot, a 52-year-old resident of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.
The State Police’s initial report showed that the crash happened when Theriot was driving a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck north on LA 3039. It is still being looked into why Theriot was unable to navigate a curve, causing his vehicle to go off the road. As a result, the F-150 went into a ditch and hit a culvert.
Theriot was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained deadly injuries. The St. Martin Parish Coroner’s Office declared him dead at the location of the incident. LSP indicated that it was not certain if he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and a sample was taken for further testing. The authorities are still looking into the cause of the crash.
Troopers want to remind drivers to always make responsible choices when driving. This includes never driving under the influence, when tired, or when distracted. Always wear a seatbelt and obey all traffic laws. While not all crashes can be avoided, taking these simple precautions can greatly increase the chances of survival.
Troop I has investigated 11 deadly crashes, leading to the deaths of 11 individuals in 2024.
