On October 17, 2023, at around 2 pm, a tragic crash occurred in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. Louisiana State Police Troop D promptly responded to the scene after receiving reports of a collision between an 18-wheeler and a Dodge pickup truck on LA Hwy 14 near Harrington Road.

Regrettably, the crash resulted in the death of Robert Allen Elliott, a 41-year-old resident of Gueydon, Louisiana.

Initial findings from the investigation revealed that Elliott's Dodge was traveling west on LA 14 while an eastbound Peterbilt grain hauler 18-wheeler was approaching from the opposite direction. LSP reported that Elliott's vehicle crossed the center line. In an attempt to prevent a collision, both drivers made evasive maneuvers. However, tragically, their efforts were unsuccessful as Elliott's vehicle collided head-on with the 18-wheeler.

Despite wearing his seat belt, Elliott suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler was unharmed as he had also been wearing his seat belt.

To determine if any substances played a role in this incident, samples were collected for toxicology analysis from both drivers involved in the crash. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

Troop D has investigated a total of 28 fatal crashes resulting in 31 deaths so far this year.
