Fatal Boating Incident in Louisiana Being Investigated After Boat Crashes into Jetty Ejecting Occupants

On October 10, 2022, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported that enforcement agents are investigating a deadly boating incident that occurred on October 8 in Plaquemines Parish.

Jose Granados, 49, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was discovered dead near Empire around 9:30 p.m. His remains were turned over to the Plaquemines Parish Coroner’s Office to obtain an official cause of death.

A boating accident in the Empire Channel was reported to agents around 8:45 p.m. Agents learned that an 18-foot vessel with three people on board struck a rock jetty. The three occupants were thrown off the vessel onto the rock jetty.

Granados died after being thrown from the boat into the rocks. The other two passengers were airlifted to University Hospital in New Orleans for treatment of serious injuries.

The LDWF will lead the investigation into this tragic boating accident.
