Explosion and Smoke Reported from Chemical Plant in Westlake

Representatives have indicated that there is not expected to be an offsite impact from the explosion. At least six non-life-threatening injuries were reported, but the extent of the injuries was not released.

Representatives have indicated that an Ethylene Dichloride storage container exploded. The explosion has now been reported to have been at Westlake Chemical South, located near the 1300 block of PPG Drive in Westlake.

Westlake, LA – On January 26, 2022, at approximately 10:50 am, multiple residents reported hearing an explosion and seeing a large plume of dark smoke from a chemical plant in the Westlake area. The explosion is believed to have come from one of the plants in the area near the I-10 and I-210 interchange in Westlake.

No cause or other information was available at the time this was published.
