Eleven-Year-Old Shot and Killed in Louisiana, 17-Year-Old Suspect Suffering from Gunshot Injuries Arrested 

Baton Rouge, Louisiana – An eleven-year-old has been shot and killed in Louisiana, and a 17-year-old suspect suffering from gunshot injuries has been arrested in connection with the crime.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported that Homicide Detectives are looking into the shooting of Matthew Fortenberry, 11, in the 5600 block of Crestway Ave at approximately 6:46 p.m. on March 16, 2023, when he was sitting inside an automobile. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Baton Rouge Police indicated that they located a 17-year-old suspect in the 6300 block of Greenwell St suffering from gunshot injuries. The juvenile suspect was taken to a local hospital and afterward placed into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison suspected of 1st Degree Murder, Attempted 1st Degree Murder (4 counts), False Imprisonment with Dangerous Weapon, and Illegal Discharge of a Firearm.

Police have stated that the motivation for this shooting is unknown at this time and that the incident is still being investigated.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
