Elderly Louisiana Man Dies in December 4 House Fire

Louisiana – The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office (LASFM) announced on December 6, 2022, that deputies are still investigating a deadly house fire in Greensburg, Louisiana that claimed the life of an elderly male inhabitant.

According to authorities, on Sunday, December 4, just before 2 p.m., St. Helena Parish Fire Department #4 responded to a report of a house fire in the 200 block of Louise Lane. When firemen arrived, they discovered a male victim in a bedroom with indications that he was attempting to reduce his exposure to smoke from the fire.

The St. Helena Parish Coroner’s Office is still working on official identification and cause of death, but the victim is thought to be the 74-year-old only resident of the home.
LASFM deputies were able to narrow down the area of origin to a living room area after assessing the scene and gathering witness testimony. Deputies are unable to rule out the likelihood of an electrical cause at this time.

Unfortunately, deputies were unable to confirm the presence of working smoke alarms in the property once more. The LASFM reminds all Louisiana residents that smoke alarms can mean the difference between life and death in a fire emergency, regardless of the kind of residence.

Operations Save-A-Life can assist you in obtaining smoke alarms for your house. Visit the LASFM website at lasfm.org to learn more about Operation Save-A-Life.
