El Jerico Bartie Found to be Habitual Offender, Sentenced to 50 Years

On June 21, 2021, Judge Kendrick Guidry found El Jerico Bartie, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, to be a fourth or subsequent habitual offender and sentenced him to 50 years in prison, without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence on each of the 8 counts of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer. Bartie’s sentences will run concurrently.
On April 30th a Calcasieu Parish jury found Bartie guilty as charged on 8 counts of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer for a 2014 incident involving a standoff at a Sulphur, Louisiana hotel.
First Assistant District Attorney Jacob Johnson and Assistant District Attorney Charles Robinson prosecuted the case for the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office.
