Early Morning Vehicle-Pedestrian Crash on US 165 in Jefferson Davis Parish Claims Life of Lake Charles Man

Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana – An early morning vehicle-pedestrian crash on US 165 in Jefferson Davis Parish has claimed the life of a man from Lake Charles.

On June 9, 2023, the Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troop D reported a tragic crash that took the life of 64-year-old Barry Lee Corbins of Lake Charles, Louisiana. According to LSP, the incident occurred shortly after 3:30 a.m. on US Hwy 165 at the intersection of LA Hwy 101 in Jefferson Davis Parish when a Toyota Camry struck Corbins as he was walking in the outside lane of travel. Corbins sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and passenger of the Toyota were not injured.

Impairment on the part of the driver is not suspected, although toxicology samples were taken and will be analyzed.

This crash is still under investigation, and the LSP is urging pedestrians to stay alert while near or on the roadway. Wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, and walking a safe distance from the travel lanes while facing oncoming traffic can help prevent many pedestrian-related crashes. Pedestrians must also realize that drivers may not be able to see them, particularly at night.

So far in 2023, Troop D has investigated 14 fatal crashes resulting in 16 deaths.
